If you've had a miscarriage, you have certainly suffered a tremendous loss. Not only do you have to put yourself back together emotionally but you must also heal physically. With any loss, you'll need to work through the three stages of grief. The first stage is shock and denial. You can't believe this has happened to you. Next come anger, guilt, and depression. Finally, the last stage of grieving is acceptance. Each stage takes a little more time to work through than the one before it. The second stage is longer and harder than the first, while the final stage is even more difficult. You might experience setbacks and have to start the process all over. Once you're on your feet emotionally, you'll have to think about your next pregnancy. Doctors usually recommend waiting three to four cycles before trying again. Collect as much information as possible about the causes of your miscarriage and find out how they might affect future pregnancies. Your next pregnancy probably won't bring you as much joy since you've learned the hard lesson that life sometimes surprises you. You're likely to become upset or overreact to each and every little occurrence in your pregnancy. Even carrying your baby to term and delivering successfully might bring back bittersweet memories of your loss. Knowing how miscarriage can affect your feelings, body, future pregnancies, and parenting are all things you can discuss with your doctor.
