Most orthodontic treatment begins in the early teens, when all of the permanent teeth, except the wisdom teeth, are in place. Minor misalignments may be treated around age eight, with a removable headgear appliance. Some orthodontists believe that the use of preventative orthodontics on children can later simplify the correction needed by braces. Such preventative orthodontics involves using space maintainers to allow room for the child's permanent teeth to grow in correctly. Dentists usually examine the alignment of the teeth during the child's annual checkup and will recommend seeing an orthodontist if they notice the beginnings of any problems. Braces have become somewhat 'cool' in their styling options. Dental brackets for braces may be hidden behind your teeth. Other bracket materials including clear resin, metal, and even glow in the dark can alter the appearence of braces. Getting braces can be affordable; your dental insurance may cover a portion of your orthodontic costs. Having straight teeth can provide a beautiful smile and improved self-confidence.
