Choosing your oncologist is an important decision. One of the first considerations is the type of health insurance plan you’re on. Many companies require their policy holders to choose their physicians from a set list, known as preferred providers. Others allow a person to choose any physician. Other factors to consider are how comfortable you are with your oncologist because you'll be required to disclose very personal information and you’ll likely develop a long-term relationship over the course of your treatment. If you don't know of an oncologist in your area, ask friends and relatives for their recommendation. Additionally you can contact local cancer societies who'll be able to provide you with recommendations.
