Most people recognize and fulfill their obligations to file federal income taxes. There are some people, however, who choose not to follow the rules. The Tax Protestor Movement was started by a group of such anti-conformists who use illegal methods to protest the tax laws. The people in this group believe that they're not under obligation to pay taxes to the government. Their arguments usually don't stand up in a court of law, and they must often pay stiff fines for protesting in addition to the taxes owed. Many tax protestors argue that the tax law is unconstitutional, but the courts have rendered the tax laws constitutional and have upheld the right of Congress to impose income taxes without limitation. As a taxpayer, you have the right to argue your theory to Congress, but you must still obey the laws already passed by Congress. Paying income taxes is not optional, though many protestors claim that it is. Failure to pay your taxes can result in serious penalties, so make sure you know the laws as well as your rights when it comes to federal income taxes.
