One type of disability rider that you may want to consider is a purchase option. It allows you to purchase more insurance coverage as you get older, or when events, such as marriage or the birth of a child, changes your insurance needs. Purchase options protect your income when events like these occur. Generally, you must have had an increases in income to add a purchase option. Although that may sound inconvenient, you won't usually need extra coverage if your income hasn't increased. As you grow older, your chances of becoming disabled increase, and your purchase option will allow you to extend your coverage without taking a new physical. Purchase options can be expensive, but will pay for themselves in the event of a disability. Consult an insurance agent in your area for more information about purchase options.
