Like television networks, many Websites are supported by advertising. The banner ads that you see at the top of most pages are what make most of the internet free for users. And just like advertisers pay more money to run their ads on top-rated programs, so Websites get more revenue if they can attract more people to their sites. One of the ways they've devised to increase traffic at their sites is to offer free E-mail services. Most of the major search engines now offer this service, and some of them will even give you Web space for your own home page. When you click on the 'Free E-mail' link, you'll go to a sign-up page. There, you can choose a user name and password. Sometimes you can choose a password hint in case you forget. You'll also be asked your name and address, and asked to agree to a legal agreement outlining what you can and can't use your E-mail account for. By using these free E-mail accounts, you can create a lot of internet mail accounts for yourself. Just be sure to keep track of your names and passwords for each one, or you'll miss a lot of messages!
