There are conflicting theories about when to exercise and eat for the optimum fat burning potential. Some experts feel that a rigorous workout first thing in the morning before breakfast will immediately burn fat, for there are lower levels of glycogen (GLI-co-jen) in the blood for the body to burn. Other experts feel that exercising later in the day helps maintain a higher metabolic rate throughout the evening. However, there are several common-sense rules to work by: Avoid rigorous exercise immediately after a heavy meal, as your body will be busy trying to digest your food and circulation will be affected. Pinpoint when your appetite is strongest, or when your energy level seems to dip the most. Scheduling your daily workouts during these times may help suppress your appetite and give you an additional boost of energy to get you through the day. For more information on when to exercise and eat, contact a health care professional.
