Though there are more varieties of makeup than ever, certain basic categories have remained the same for the past few decades. Foundation includes that group of products designed to improve the look of the skin by disguising blemishes, age spots, or other imperfections. For added coverage of problem areas like pimples or undereye circles, you may choose a concealer, an opaque product, usually in stick form, that goes on over foundation where needed. Powder helps set makeup and absorb oily shine. Powders may be loose or in a compact, and be translucent or tinted with color. Blush, or rouge (roozh), is used to give color on the cheeks and/or add contour. Powder blush is good for oily or normal skin, while those with dry skin may prefer a cream blush. Gel blushes are the most sheer. Eyeshadow comes in various forms from cream to powder, and may be matte or frosted. Eyeliner serves to define the shape of your eyes and can be applied with as a pencil or a liquid. Mascara is used to darken, thicken, and lengthen the lashes. Brow makeup includes brow pencils and liquid brow makeup. The lip category ranges from lipstick and glosses to lip liners that are used to trace the borders of the mouth.
