If you're patient, persistent, and know where to look, you can find plenty of fashion bargains. Do comparison shopping in stores, on-line, or by checking newspaper circulars to find out what you can expect to pay for a given item. Then when you see a sale, you can evaluate how good a deal it really is. Discount stores can be a good source of bargains. Many large chains get brand-name merchandise and offer it at a significant markdown. When shopping more expensive stores, never pay full price. Most items will go on sale after a few weeks on the rack. Another trick is to shop off-season: buy bathing suits at the end of summer, and sweaters at the end of winter, when such items are on clearance. Watch the mail for money-off coupons that you can apply towards a purchase. Some stores may offer discounts if you use or sign up for their store credit card. This is fine, as long as the card has no annual fee and you can pay the bill in full when it arrives. Still other opportunities can be found by purchasing gently worn clothing. If you've got an eye for fashion, try scouting consignment shops, vintage stores, or even thrift shops and garage sales, where you might spot a great deal.
