When shopping for clothes and accessories, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the selection or get sidetracked into buying things that aren't really a good purchase for you. Help yourself shop more effectively by asking a few questions about each item you're considering. First, is it something you really like? You might be surprised how often boredom or an eye-catching display can lead you to buy something you don't even want that badly. If you do like the item, is it something you really need, or do you have similar pieces at home already? Will the piece coordinate with other things in your wardrobe? Does it flatter you in style, fit, and color? Finally, is it reasonably priced? Stretch your wardrobe by purchasing mostly classic pieces; they'll never go out of style and can easily be updated with accessories. If you just can't resist a few trendy items each year, at least get them at a bargain. Quality isn't so crucial if the garment is very affordable and you'll only wear it a year or two. On the other hand, long-term purchases should be of the best quality you can afford. For example, those in cold climates should invest in a good, stylish coat, as they'll be seen in it often.
