It may be important for you to have a pre-owned car checked out under the hood by a competent mechanic before you decide to purchase the vehicle. With a pre-owned car, problems may exist which affect the car's value and reliability. Some of these problems may only be detected with proper equipment used by professional auto mechanics. Good mechanics can often discover situations that were unknown, even to the previous owner. Many mechanic shops can run a complete engine, electrical, and emissions diagnosis as part of a pre-owned car inspection and testing. Their engine analyzer can check all cylinders, high-tech brain boxes, and feedback sensors that help a car run properly. The analyzer can also help determine the status of the battery and the charging systems, as well as the exhaust emissions. Other equipment may be able to check for freon (FREE-on) leaks and determine whether your antifreeze has been changed properly at the necessary intervals. When your mechanic finishes testing the pre-owned car, you may want to ask for a written report of all results to keep in your file.
