The internal combustion engine, or gasoline-powered engine has come a long way since Henry Ford's original 'Tin Lizzy.' The gasoline engine now has emission controls, turbo charging, fuel injection, and computer chips, all designed to make your driving experience more efficient. However, to conserve oil automakers have begun to design new hybrid, half-gasoline/half-electric engines, which could some day be the standard for all vehicles. Until then, the gasoline engine is still the backbone of the world's mode of transportation. To take care of your gas engine, be sure to use the proper grade of gasoline. Add fuel additives when necessary to keep the internal components clean. Change your engine oil as often, or more often, than is recommended by your manufacturer. Modern gas engines require plenty of fluids, careful maintenance and more knowledge on the part of the owner than ever before. The more you know about how your car works, the better you, your car, and your pocketbook will be in the future.
