It's not always necessary to replace a tire which has a puncture in it. Some tires can be repaired, but there are guidelines you must follow. First of all, the puncture must be a quarter of an inch in diameter or smaller. The puncture must fall between the two major outermost treads. Sidewall punctures should not be repaired. A puncture within fifteen inches of a previous puncture should not be repaired. And tires with less than one sixteenth of an inch of tread should be replaced, not repaired. I'm talking about an actual repair done from inside the tire by a service station or tire store. Temporary solutions like plugs or liquid sealant should only be used until you can get your tire repaired properly.
