There are many different types of vehicle warranties. A basic warranty generally covers everything except items subject to wear and tear, such as oil filters and wiper blades. Tires and batteries often have their own warranty coverage, which is usually outlined in the owner's manual. Emissions equipment is required by the federal government to be covered for five years or fifty thousand miles. Another type of warranty is drivetrain coverage, which takes care of the parts that make the car move, like the engine, transmission, drive axles, and driveshaft. Like the basic warranty, parts subject to wear and tear are not generally covered. You can also obtain a warranty that protects from rust. Another type of warranty is roadside assistance that helps you if you get a flat tire, your car leaves you stranded, or you lock yourself out of the car, for example.
