Firstly, you can choose from a broader selection of colors and interior finishes than may be immediately available from the dealer. Also, the cars available directly from dealers are generally provided with a range of dealer-installed optional features. If you don't need all these additional features, you can save money by ordering your new car with the exact options you need and no more. This way, you won't have to pay for options you don't really want or need. Finally, you may be able to negotiate a favorable discount on an ordered vehicle, since the dealer doesn't have to keep the vehicle in inventory, care for the vehicle from receipt to sale, and is guaranteed an immediate purchaser for the vehicle. Since the costs are thus reduced, the dealer may be prepared to accept a lower markup. Vehicle manufacturers can generally only provide you with a so-called MSRP (M-S-R-P) or manufacturer's suggested retail price and will normally refer you to local dealers for exact pricing details.
