In most cases, the cost of insurance is a substantial part of owning a car. There are many factors which determine how much you'll pay for car insurance. The biggest factors are your age and driving record, geographic location, and the type of car you drive. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you save money when shopping for insurance. Choose a vehicle that's both safe and economical to drive. The safer the car, the lower the insurance premiums. Insurance companies may even offer special discounts for air bags or anti-lock brakes. Auto alarm systems can also help reduce your premium up to 10 percent. Keep in mind that insurance rates are usually higher on cars with large engines, four-wheel drive, or special equipment like a premium sound system, leather interior, or sunroof. When you find a car that interests you, comparison shop for insurance rates. It's a good idea to call at least five insurance companies to get a quote. These quotes may vary greatly, so make sure the coverage is exactly the same from each company. Also, don't buy more coverage than you actually need. With a little research and some wise planning, you can save hundreds of dollars on car insurance each year. For more information on car insurance, consult an insurance agent.
