Failure of the lubrication system in your car could lead to a breakdown or a blown engine, so it's important to pay attention to any warning signs. Usually the first sign of trouble with the system is a glowing oil light or an extreme drop in pressure on the gauge. If one, or both, of these things happens, pull over and shut off the car immediately. Continuing to drive or run the engine could cause serious damage if there's a problem with the lubrication system. The oil light can be activated, or pressure may drop from not having enough oil in the engine, or sometimes by the wrong type of oil. Check the oil level on the dipstick after shutting off the engine. If the level looks low, and you add oil but the light doesn't go out, don't attempt to drive the car. If the level reads full and the oil light stays on after starting the engine, something's wrong. In either case, you may want to have your car towed to a qualified mechanic.
