Transmissions are not an electrical component! Your car has one of two types of transmissions, either manual or automatic. If your car has a manual transmission, there's an extra foot pedal on the floorboard, which operates the clutch. Manual transmissions generally last longer than automatic and usually need fewer repairs. Clutches may wear out periodically, but replacement of a clutch is usually much less expensive than major transmission work. It may be a good idea to check the level of fluid in your car's transmission at least once a week. Your car's owner's manual should have information on how to do this. When adding fluid, be sure to use the kind recommended by your car's manufacturer. Manual and automatic transmissions use two totally different types of lubricant. Most mechanics recommend the fluid in both types of transmissions be changed at least yearly. Automatic transmissions also have a filter that should be replaced when the fluid is changed. Contact a local mechanic or transmission specialty shop in your area for more information on your car's transmission.
