ALBUQUERQUE - The pictures are weird, but people can't stop looking at them.
The so-called "scotch tape" photos were shot by Wes Naman, an Albuquerque-based photograph.
CBS affiliate KRQE spoke with Naman about the funny and slightly disturbing images. He said the idea just came up when he was hanging out with friends. Just before Christmas, they decided to tape up their faces and take pictures.
"We totally had no idea it was going to be anything like that. It was just something to do. It was something fun, and we thought we'd have a good laugh out of it and next thing you know, it's all over the world," said Naman.
Naman was out of town when Wired magazine picked up t he photos. He was traveling home to North Carolina when his phone "blew up" with news from Facebook, Twitter, Huffington Post, and a newspaper in the UK.
He eventually caught the Scotch Brand's attention. KRQE said the company actually sent him a supply of tape.
"The best [shots came from] when I asked people to try to remove the tape with their facial muscles only," said Naman.
Naman makes a living shooting photographs for magazines, ad agencies and restaurants in Albuquerque.
