- A Large Gallon Size Baggie

- Pieces of Dry Ice

- Funnel

- Warm Water

- Gloves

Procedure

Using gloves and a funnel fill a large balloon with some pieces of dry ice. Add a little warm water and tie the baggie off and stand back. If you put enough dry ice in the baggie the baggie will burst.

Explanation

When regular ice melts it goes from a solid, (ice), to a liquid, (water), and drips all over. Dry ice doesn't really melts but it does get smaller. Dry ice goes straight from a solid to a gas and skips the liquid phase. This is called sublimation. Dry ice is solid Carbon Dioxide, so as it sublimates it produces a lot of carbon Dioxide gas and eventually will build up enough pressure inside the baggie to make the baggie burst.
