A local woman says she did everything to protect herself but still got stuck with a T.V. set she can't watch. Local 12 Troubleshooter Howard Ain tells us that's because of the limitations on her three warranties.
Su Sagraves of Mason tried for a while to get her old T.V. set working. Then she gave up and bought a bigger, more expensive one and a new sound system. That was back in February. But then that T.V. also broke, just 40 days later. You can imagine how she felt. "Frustrated more than anything. After having gone though the whole process of having to have a television replaced, calling and getting a repair, waiting for the repair to have to buy a new one I expect it to last."
She called hhgregg because the store also sold her an extended service warranty with the set. But the store couldn't help because she had the set more than 30 days. What about that warranty? "The extended warranty I purchased through hhgregg says they don't service the product until the product is over a year old, that's under the manufacturer's warranty."
So she called Panasonic, the maker of the set. "Definitely a factory defect and, according to the gentleman they sent out to repair it, it's a common defect. Apparently he's had several service calls on it."
It's so common that as soon as Panasonic returned the set, more than a month later, it stopped working again, within an hour."The big thing is the Sagraves really haven't had this T.V working for about two months yet they paid for all this new sound system here and they're still playing for cable T.V. every month. "I'm supposed have another gentleman coming over to pick up the T.V. again today but again he's got to go back and repair it and if it takes 30 days ore more to repair it then again I won't have the television for 30 days. I only owned it for 40."
When the Panasonic repairman came to her house, she told them I had been there. He called Panasonic and now Panasonic is gong to replace the TV, and she should get it any day now. She'll also get a new receipt so she can have her hhgregg extended warranty changed to that set.
Incidentally, the hhgregg extended warranty is not at all unusual. Many extended service warranties often don't begin until after the original manufacturer's warranty expires.
