Experts predict holiday travel will set a record this Thanksgiving.

Some air passengers will get bumped - and then offered a free ticket voucher. But vouchers can be fool's gold.

Delta airlines says its prepared to fly about 1.8 million customers this Thanksgiving holiday period. Some flights are bound to be overbooked on Delta and other airlines, so ticket agents will offer free travel vouchers to those willing to give up their seats.

But, be careful.  In the past, those who gave up their seat only had to wait two or three hours for another flight. Now, with fewer empty seats, you may have to wait till the next day for a flight.

When you want to use the voucher you could be charged a booking fee for doing so over the phone and even have a hard time using the voucher. The airlines limit the number of seats available for vouchers-- so you have fly during off-peak times, and may not even be able to get where you want to go.

So what can you do? If you're willing to be bumped make sure you get a confirmed seat on the next flight out and ask for a monetary voucher good for a reducing the price of the next ticket you buy.
