DETROIT (AP) - Honda is recalling 172,200 small SUVs and cars in the U.S. because the doors may not close.

The recall affects 166,000 CR-V SUVs from the 2012 model year and 6,200 Acura ILX small luxury cars from the 2013 model year.

Honda says that if the inside driver or passenger door handles are used at the same time as the power or manual door locks, the inner door latch may not work. This means a door may not latch, or it could latch and open when the locks are used.

The company says no crashes injuries have been reported because of the problem.

Honda says dealers will inspect the cars and fix them if needed. Owners should get letters from the company starting in mid-August.

On the older Hondas, when you pull the door handle to get out of the car and hit the door lock switch, all the doors locked. Apparently, that's not the case anymore. Oops, read your manuals.

Whenever an "American" car company that ships jobs overseas has recalls ,you see one very small notice on some back page. When its a Japanese company that employs American workers it is trumpeted from the mountain tops 24/7 for years. Years ago I bought a new Ford,my neighbor ,who bought a Toyota, commented "I see you bought American". I replied that my Ford had been made in Seoul ,South Korea, while his Toyota had been made in Lexington. As soon as my Korean Ford was out of warranty ,the car died from an acute bending of the crankshaft. I have been with Toyota and Honda ever since.

At least Honda won't cost us tax-payers $30 billion in a bail-out like the "Big Three" American made car manufacturers.

This is going to cost Honda, and consumers, how many millions?? Cant they just put "Dont be stupid." in the owners manual? More needless expensive government intervention.

Why would somebody pull on the door handle at the same time as they are locking the car?
