Grape Source
The grapes are sourced from a variety of cool-climate vineyards throughout California and harvested at an average brix of 21.5° to ensure bright acidity, delicacy and freshness.
Vintage
Low rainfall and moderate temperatures in spring led to an early bud-break in 2007. Bloom took place over an extended period and resulted in variable set that contributed to smaller and looser clusters. Harvesting of whites began in mid- August with warm weather, but cool temperatures in September and October allowed a slow and extended ripening period for the reds. Below average crop size on nearly all varieties combined with moderate temperatures yielded wines with intense varietal character, richness and approachable structure.
Winemaking
Winemaker Erik Olsen aims to capture Pinot Grigio’s fresh stone fruit and citrus flavors, crisp acidity and delicate minerality. To this end, the grapes were pressed quickly after picking, then fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation was inhibited; the wine sees no oak.
Winemaker Notes
This Pinot Grigio shows a faint straw color with a silvery-green highlight. It has clear fruit aromas of melon, grapefruit and lime zest. In the mouth it’s fresh and minerally with crystalline melon and citrus flavors. Enjoy this wine well-chilled.
