36 year old Army Major Guy Barattieri was killed on October 4, 2006 by an improvised explosive device in Iraq.
The 1988 Purcell Graduate was a Special Forces Commander in a security operation. He arrived in Iraq for his tour of duty less than a week before his death. But it wasn't his first tour of duty in that country.
In March 2003, his team led the 101st Infantry Division on its march to Baghdad. Barattieri received a Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's badge for his role.
. Barattierri was also a 1992 West Point graduate and left behind a wife, a baby daughter and a stepdaughter.
He is buried in Seattle, Washington where he lived and worked as a police officer. His family lives in Pleasant Ridge.
