20 year old Lance Corporal William Spencer of Miami Township, Clermont County, died on December 28, 2006 in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. A marine tells Local 12 Spencer was shot several times in an ambush while trying to save a fellow Marine.

Spencer attended Milford High School where he played football but moved to Tennessee before graduation. His father lives in Middletown and his mother in Loveland.

Lance Corporal Spencer was assigned to the Marine Force Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Nashville, Tennessee.
Spencer was on his first tour of duty in Iraq and was deployed 3 months before his death.
