22 year old Lance Corporal Brett Wightman of Sabina died on August 3, 2005, in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq. Wightman was one of 14 Marines from the Ohio-based 3rd Battalion 25th Marines killed in the attack. 5 men from the Tri-State died that day.
Wightman was interested in the military from the tender age of 3. He was a history buff who attended East Clinton High School and graduated in 2002. Wightman was the captain of the football team.
Wightman is buried in Fayette County. There is also a scholarship in his name at Southern State Community College.
