We turn now to one of the many issues on this fall's ballot.
Issue 28 in Hamilton County is the mental health levy.
In 2006 the Mental Health Board reported providing mental health services for over 40,000 people, including...
11,705 adults and 6,500 children who received counseling, case management, medication management and other basic services
Over 8,000 individuals received emergency care and 13,800 received crisis services.
State funds account for 26 percent of the funds to provide these services, while federal funds provide about 31 percent.
The largest single source of funding, 40 percent, comes from a county wide property tax levy. The current levy will expire at the end of this year. Issue 26 proposes a 2.99 mill levy, a renewal and a slight increase.
For every $100,000 of valuation, the property owner will pay $43.86.
That is an increase of $7.40 over the course of a year.
To discuss the mental health levy proposal, I am joined by Patrick Tribbe, the president and CEO of the Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Board.
