We conclude our preparation for the general elections of 2009 with an interview with the two candidates for Mayor of Cincinnati. This is appropriate not only because of the race itself, but because it allows the two people who want to lead the region's largest city to provide their views on the potential implications of several of the other issues that are on the ballot this Tuesday that will shape the future of the city and the region.
Mark Mallory, a Democrat, who is completing a four year term as Mayor, commented on the upcoming general elections. Before being elected Mayor in 2005, Mr. Mallory, served 11 years in the Ohio general assembly including two terms in the Ohio house and two in the Ohio Senate.
And Brad Wenstrup, a Republican, who is making his first run for public office also responded to the upcoming elections. Dr. Wenstrup is an orthopedic surgeon with Wellington Orthopedic and Sports Group. As a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Dr. Wenstrup served a tour of duty in Iraq as a Podiatrist and Chief of Surgery caring for soldiers, marines and Iraqi civilians.
Besides the usual slates of candidates proposed by the Republican, Democratic and charter parties, this year Mayor Mallory has endorsed a slate of candidates. The slate includes eight people, including four incumbent Democrats- Laketa Cole, Greg Harris, Roxanne Qualls and Cecil Thomas. And four non-incumbent Democrats-Nicholas Hollan, Laure Quinlivan, Bernadette Watson and Wendell Young.
