In 2012, the biggest event that's going to happen in our region is the seventh World Choir Games. For the first time this international extravaganza is coming to North America, and we are the hosts.
A few weeks ago the Chicago Tribune named it's big events globally for the coming year, and included the World Choir Games, scheduled for July 4th to the 14th. We are less than 200 days away and already 301 choirs--including 13 former champions--from 43 countries have already signed up. That's 12,000 singers right there, and that doesn't count the choirs from across the U.S., much less visitors who will descend on the city.
Welcoming the expected 200,000 visitors is a huge undertaking, requiring funding and volunteers. To talk about what's been accomplished and what's still needed, Dan was jointed by Dan Lincoln the president and CEO of the Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau. The CVB led the effort to land the World Choir Games for the city and is overseeing the preparations. And Nick Vehr, the CEO of Vehr Communications, the firm that is taking the day to day lead in planning the World Choir Games.
In second part of the program, Dan discussed the members of class six of C-Change, a leadership development program for young professionals sponsored by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, focused their efforts on supporting the games. The 52 members of the class, drawn from large and small businesses, not for profit organizations and local universities divided into teams to develop five projects to make sure that out region's moment on the global stage is as successful as possible. Dan was joined by Barbara Hauser was a member of the Big Pig Gig Do Re Wee Project Team. Barbara Works for Procter and Gamble in the global marketing external relations area. And Jennifer Sebranek, who was a member of the Choir Connect project team. Jennifer is a marketing manager for Al Neyer, Inc.
