Children from Sands Montessori in Mount Washington took a field trip to Lunken Airport today.

It was part of a creative way to practice math skills.

The fourth, fifth and sixth graders talked to members of the Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron and got to check out two F18 fighter jets.

They learned to convert military time to standard time and calculated how long it would take the jets to reach certain distances based on their air speed.

They also learned a little geography by identifying where the jets have traveled on a map.

The squadron is also known as Bengal Squadron 224.

Members are in town because they did a flyover at yesterday's Bengals game.
