After a child is hit by a car while he was on the way to school ... some Colerain Township parents are trying to get some changes made.
Last month, 12 year-old Cameron Kirtley was struck near the intersection of Kemper and Pippin Roads in Colerain Township. He was on his way to Pleasant Run Middle School. Cameron walks because he lives too close to the school for busing. He suffered fractures, a bump on his head, and his braces were knocked off his bottom teeth.
A couple of years ago, the township installed a stop light at the intersection. But many in the area say the street is also too dark, and a street light should be installed too.
Rhonda Rohrig witnessed the accident, "When kids are walking to school they're walking in the crosswalk where they should walk and traffic cannot see them. When it's dark out you just cannot see them."
Rohrig says the intersection is safer since the time change, but in a month, when its dark in the mornings again, she worries about another child being struck.
The township administrator said Duke Energy has been contacted. Duke will give an estimate on how much it would cost to put in a light. The trustees could review this proposal at their next meeting next Tuesday evening. It's at the administration building on Springdale Road. The public is welcome to attend.
