If you want to get a look at some of the newest upscale homes in the Tri-State, Homearama kicks off soon in Montgomery ... with many homes over two million dollars.
The neighborhood is called the Vintage Club ... and you might wonder who can afford this kind of luxury.
Local 12's Paula Toti has some answers .... and a sneak peak of some of the special features.
We are in one of ten homes in this year's Homearama. The home featured is also unusual because it’s a joint venture between two builders, “Hering Homes” and “Brandenburg Homes”. It shows a lot of trends in this one room. This is the master bath. What master isn't complete without a granite tub and a television. Also this trend ... cabinets made to look like furniture. There is the oil rubbed finish. A big trend in showers is the seamless shower ... and these beautiful handles ... I have never seen any this nice. And you need a place to store the toothpaste and dental floss .. how about a cabinet like this. This home is the most expensive Homearama home ever ... 2.6 million dollars.
It's 9 thousand four hundred square feet. you have to wonder who is buying in a neighborhood like this.
"They are board of directors, CEO's CFO's of the company, upper management or owners."
Yes a lot of company owners buy these homes. And over the years P&G employees ... where both husband and wife work for the company seem to make up the majority of Homearama buyers. There are also a lot of doctors and lawyers in these neighborhoods.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the mean income for a surgeon is now $184,000. A lawyer $114,000 and an engineering manager $110,000.
Gillette workers transferring in from Boston have also been buying in former Homearama communities.
If you've got the money ... you can get the new Dirt Devil Hide a Hose ... a new twist on the central vac ... and the latest in kitchens....
"Earth tones, a Tuscan look this year, warm and homey."
And in this Hering home .... the pool has a special feature ... in the downstairs media room ...
there's an aquatic viewing area ... that will soon be filled with fish ... a way of bringing part of the outside pool ... inside. Just for the record if you put 20 percent down on this house ... your monthly payments with taxes would be about $16,000 a month.
And upscale buyers in Cincinnati have done everything from cash deals ... to interest only loans.
And you might be surprised about the million dollar lifestyle. The Wall Street Journal says only five percent of million dollar home buyers have a personal assistant. Only four percent have line in help. And only a poor one percent have a driver. Soon the construction dust will settle here and guests can view the area. So you can come out for yourself guys ... and see if it's worth the money.
The show runs from June 9th through the 24'th.
It's ten dollars at the gate.
