Exercise Helps Keep Off Weight Loss

A new report says not being a slug when you lose weight makes a huge difference in keeping it off!

Local 12's Liz Bonis explains why in today's Health Alert.

If you've been trying to drop pounds without exercise, this new study shows it's going to be a lot harder to keep it off.

We stopped out at the Tri-Health Fitness and Health Pavilion today to tell you why.

Researchers in the American Journal of Phsyiology found those who keep working out after losing weight don't gain it back, because it decreases your appetite, burns fat for fuel, instead of carbohydrates, and reduces your body's set-point weight, so to speak. Exercise appears to reduce appetite by altering brain signals. Previous studies have also shown those who workout during and following weight loss have double the success rate at keeping weight off, compared to those who decide to simply be slugs and just try and stop eating.
