(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College women's basketball team moved up to No. 8 in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) USA TODAY Sports Coaches' polls.
In the D3hoops.com poll the Saints moved up one spot from No. 9 last week after receiving 465 points. They are only 13 points behind No. 7 Montclair State (N.J.) University.
In the WBCA poll, Thomas More received 145 points and moved up from one spot from last week's No. 9 ranking. The 145 points is only nine points behind No 7 Simpson (Iowa) College, 10 points behind Ohio Northern University and 15 points behind No. 5 Tufts (Mass.) University.
The No. 8 ranking is Thomas More's highest ranking since it was ranked No. 6 in the final rankings of the 2010-11 season. The Saints were ranked No. 1 in the nation during that season for six straight weeks.
Thomas More improved to 20-1 overall and 14-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) following its 77-53 win over PAC-rival Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday (February 2, 2013) in Washington, Pennsylvania. The Saints' lone loss this season was an 84-75 overtime time loss to No. 2-ranked Calvin College. For the season, the Saints are shooting 43.2 percent from the field, including 34.5 percent from behind the three-point arc. Thomas More has a +25.7 scoring margin and leads the nation with a 1.32 assist turnover ratio. Senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) leads the team in scoring with 16.9 points per game, assists with 76 and steals with 58, while sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) leads the team on the boards with 6.2 rebounds per game.
The Saints return to the hardwood on Wednesday (February 6) when they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play PAC foe Westminster College at 6 p.m.
