OXFORD, Ohio -- Steve Snyder, retired secretary to the board of trustees and executive assistant to the president, has been named the interim director of intercollegiate athletics at Miami University while a national search is conducted for a successor to Brad Bates.

Snyder retired in Dec. 2011.

Snyder has served Miami in various capacities for nearly 42 years, including three as a student employee. He served as interim athletic director in fall semester of 2002, prior to the appointment of Brad Bates. Snyder also served as liaison with the National Collegiate Athletic Association during the successful accreditation review of Miami's athletic programs in 2002.

"Steve's familiarity with the function of the athletic director position and with the Miami campus community will ensure a smooth transition period," Miami president David Hodge said. "We're very happy he has agreed to help us until we complete our search."
