MACON, Ga. – Northern Kentucky University’s Eshaunte Jones has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Jones, a 6-foot-4 senior guard from Fort Wayne, Ind., averaged 25.5 points per game as Northern Kentucky posted win against Mercer (63-46) and Kennesaw State (64-53). He also buried 10 shots from 3-point range in those two victories and made 52.6 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
Jones poured in a career-high 26 points to lead Northern Kentucky to a 63-46 win over Mercer o Thursday. He finished 6-for-8 from 3-point range and also grabbed six rebounds as the Norse knocked off the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason favorite in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The man nicknamed “Bear” capped his week Saturday night by scoring 25 points as the Norse defeated Kennesaw State. Jones also added four rebounds and three assists in that victory before a Homecoming crowd of 4,716 in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
Jones is the first basketball player in Northern Kentucky history to receive the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor. He averages a team-leading 15.2 points per game.
The Norse play at East Tennessee State on Thursday night. The tip is set for 7 p.m.
