Middletown High School will pay tribute to alumnus and NBA Hall of Fame member Jerry Lucas by naming the basketball court at Wade E. Miller Gymnasium in his honor.
Lucas was a three-time All-American at Ohio State, where he won an NCAA title. He was also a U.S. Olympic gold medalist (1960) and an NBA champion (Knicks, 1973). He played with the Cincinnati Royals in the 1960s. During his time at MHS from 1956-58, the team had a 76-game winning streak.
“I am very grateful and humbled by the honors,” said Lucas, 72, currently lives in California.
The Jerry Lucas Court dedication will take place between the JV and Varsity Men’s basketball games on February 15th, as the Middies host Hamilton High.
The following evening, a ceremony and dinner will be held in Lucas’ honor at Miami University Middletown, with proceeds going to establish the Jerry Lucas Scholarship Fund.
Game tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and children. Tickets to the ceremony and dinner catered by Montgomery Inn are $30.
