@Conservavenger - Did it not speak volumes that Deters, who is known to be tough as nails, advocated for the re-admittance of Mr. Wells despite whatever school rules Xavier felt he violated? Not saying that Xavier doesn't have the right to decide as they see fit but it raised eyebrows.

All you have to do is mention the word Catholic ,and the redneck, anti Catholic hillbillies like Ashley come crawling out of the woodwork.

It amazes me how people just assume they know everything. Xavier is a private school; if you have ANY brains, you know that when you go there. They have standards; look what happened at Penn State when those standards favored winning over morality. Wells didn't HAVE to be convicted of a crime, all he had to do was BREAK THE RULES. We don't know what the incident was and I'm sure wells should appreciate the confidentiality. If he was discriminated against, or wrongly punished, Shiverdecker is not one to miss an opportunity to make it on the news, so there's that. But the hypocrisy is mind numbing; everyone jumped all over Penn State's entire history of putting winning before morals, yet when another University, and a religious based one at that, does in fact put morality first, everyone screams foul at that!!! Face it, it's hurting X more than wells; from the reports I'm seeing he's already landed at Maryland. Xavier on the other hand, is in for a long season. Just for once it would be great to see credit given where credit is due. And Deters WAS in fact out of line; it is not in his scope to oversee a private university's disciplinary process.

Its a shame local 12 rewrites the entire story and leaves the same comments attached. Both parties were very forthcoming with what happened, and both sides of the story corroborated with each other. There was no rape, but Xavier greatly over-reacted considering what actually happened.

VT322D: You brought up Title IX, not me. Title IX is about racial and/or gender discrimination.

@Cincinnatus - If that was the case, that Wells was not indicted only because the witness refused to testify, then why would Deters publicly advocate that he be re-admitted to Xavier? You make no sense. Also, nobody mentioned race except yourself and navrat. Does that make you both what you termed "race card players?"

I don't know the details on this case, but I do know lots of guilty people go free when witnesses or victims do not wish to testify. What I do know is that Xavier U knows more about this case than I do, and if they see fit to expel the guy, then so be it. They knew that their action would bring out the race card players, so they must have an exceptionally strong case.

And since the business of catholicism is so pure and righteous - the administrators at XU should just keep on sitting in their pious glass house and throwing stones.

The government is not the only entity to have rules and regs to follow!!! We are not government run to that degree....yet!! It doesn't matter what the "law" says there are rules to follow everywhere in society problem is when someone gets punished for not following them then you get this mess. Rules are rules, abide by them or pay the consequences! As someone pointed out this is and elite college, knowing that you have to follow their rules. I mean really this isn't a POS on a scholarhship to a premier college that doesn't know how to act....right?
