Epps leads Marion County past Notre Dame 52-36

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Marion County's Makayla Epps scored 15 points Saturday night in leading the Lady Knights to a 52-36 win over Notre Dame in the state title game of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 at Diddle Arena.


The win clinched an undefeated season for the Region 5 champion Lady Knights (39-0), last year's state runners-up.


Epps added six rebounds and five assists. The Kentucky signee and Gatorade Kentucky Girls Player of the Year was named the Sweet 16's Most Valuable Player.


Fellow Kentucky signee Kyvin Goodin-Rogers scored 10 points for the Lady Knights.


Region 9 champion Notre Dame (29-6) was the first Northern Kentucky team since Highlands in 1994 to appear in the state title game. The Pandas shot just 31.8 percent (14 of 44) for the game.


Haylee Smith led Notre Dame with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Olivia Voskuhl added 11 points.
