Bearcats to Face Providence Wednesday in BIG EAST Championship

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati received the No. 9 seed and will play eighth-seed Providence in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship Wednesday at noon at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The game will be televised by ESPN and can be heard on 700 WLW.

The Bearcats (21-10, 9-9- BIG EAST are coming off a 61-53 overtime win over USF on Senior Day Saturday at Fifth Third Arena.

The Friars (17-13) suffered a 63-59 overtime loss at Connecticut on Saturday. Kadeem Batts led Providence with a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds) while Kris Dunn (11 points) and Josh Fortune (10 points) also scored in double figures.

UC is making its seventh BIG EAST Championship appearance and owns a 5-6 all-time record at the event.

UC advanced to the title game of the BIG EAST Championship last season, defeating Georgetown 72-70 in double overtime in the quarterfinals and Syracuse 71-68 in the semifinals. The Bearcats lost in the championship game 50-44 to Louisville.

UC’s allotment of tickets for the 2013 BIG EAST Championship is sold out. The athletics department recommends fans utilize its secondary ticket source at vividseats.com as a possible alternative.
