Akron rallies to beat Miami 54-50

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Brian Walsh and Demetrius Treadwell scored 13 points apiece and Akron got hot in the second half to rally and edge Miami 54-50 Saturday in Mid-American Conference play.

           

Walsh and Treadwell combined to go 10-of-18 shooting for the Zips (19-4, 10-0), who shot just 24 percent (6 of 25) in the first half and trailed 25-16 at the break.

           

Alex Abreu, Akron's third-leading scorer, struggled from the field but dished out six assists. His lone field goal gave the Zips its first lead of the second half, 35-34, with 7:44 left to play.

           

Miami (8-14, 3-7) rallied to tie the game 45-45 at the 2:32 mark but Akron outscored the RedHawks 8-1 over the next 2 minutes to seal the victory.

           

Allen Roberts had 11 for Miami, which shot 36 percent (8 of 22) in the second half compared to 56 percent (13 of 23) for Akron.
