Tattoo Billy was founded in the summer of 2000 by Hurstel and Ed Begley who are the singer and bassist and now includes Gary Little on lead guitar and Ron Smith on drums. The band at one point had 60 songs published between Five Roses publishing and Saddle Stone records. The band's sound over time developed into their own signature sound.

The bands first album, American Shakespeare caught the ear of movie director, Joe Torntore and he used the song "Cutting Loose" in his movie Immortally Yours/Kiss of a Vampire. The first album featured guitar work by guest guitarist Randy Hayes, the former guitar player for Keith Whitley. The band recently signed with the record label, Outstanding Records. The label re-released American Shakespeare and the second album is already finished and will soon be released. The band is currently working on songs for their third untitled album.
