Fairfield police tell our partners at the Hamilton Journal News that the shooting death of a man in that city yesterday is a homicide, the first in the city in three years. Officers were called to an apartment on Winton Road near Nilles Road at 4:11 a.m. Thursday. Detectives say a woman called 911 to report a man was covered in blood.

When officers arrived, they found 29 year old Damien Terrell Taylor dead of at least one gunshot wound.

"We are looking at it as a homicide," said Clint Nigg, a coroner's investigator, who said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning at the Butler County Morgue.  Police did not elaborate on why they believe Taylor's death is a murder.

Neighbors told Local 12 on Thursday morning that they heard screams and sounds of fighting coming from the apartment before the shooting. Police tell the Hamilton Journal News that they believe Taylor was living in the apartment with his girlfriend.

Fairfield’s last homicide was a murder-suicide in 2009 in the parking lot of the Jelly Bean Junction Learning Center on Mack and Winton roads. Evelyn Restituyo, 46, of Colerain Twp., and Francisco Restituyo, 47, of Liberty Twp., were found dead in a vehicle there. Francisco tied up and fatally shot Evelyn Restituyo before turning the gun on himself, according to police.
