A Tri-State man is being held in the Hamilton County jail on a $1,000,000 bond on a murder charge.

Carl Stevelt faced a Hamilton County judge Tuesday morning.

Monday night, investigators spent hours removing evidence from a home on Considine Ave. in East Price Hill.

After they pulled boxes of evidence out, they arrested Stevelt.

The 20-year-old is charged with the murder of Steven Derden.

Cincinnati Police have not said how they linked Stevelt to Derden's murder.

Derden was shot on Price Ave. near Hawthorn Ave. Monday morning, Derden died at the hospital.

Let me clarify my conclusion (AND IF THESE GUYS WOULD HAVE BEEN INCARCERATED FOR THEIR PREVIOUS CRIMES THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE MET ON THAT STREET THAT NIGHT AND THEY COULD HAVE BOTH BEEN ALIVE AND SAVED US 25 TO LIFE IN FURTHER INCARCERATION EXPENSES, NOT TO MENTION THE LOSS OF HUMANITY.) While I am "strict" on crime, my postion is that if crime were were approached with shympathy towards the criminal I would hope we could use their incarceration to rehabilitate them. Mental/emotional counciling, job/trade training in my humble opinion should take priority over punishment. My position is hit them hard and hit them quick before the alternative becomes attractive. I can understand giving a person a chance, but just one chance. Then it is time to institutionalize change, thorough and complete rehabilitation. It can save more than just a person, it can save a life, a human being. However, there are times when you have to read the writing on the wall as they say and irradicate the problem for the betterment of society as a whole. In those cases there is no good reason to prolong an unrealistic or unreasonable hope.

Think we should remember these KIDS both have people that are hurting because the choices they made!!! If they were both locked up as they should have been we would just have two other names in the headlines.

A million dollar bond is okay. We all know that he can't post it. Might as well be $5 million. He probably doesn't have a pot to p in nor a window to throw it out of as the old saying goes. What ever his reason, it isn't good enough to kill someone. He needs to be put to death just like he did that young man -- whatever his reason. Lock him up until such time as he can be dead -- the quicker the better. And really I don't want to hear about his momma mistreating him, or his daddy being gone from the home or his uncle or cousin abusing him. That's crap.....

@ Economystic - I also appreciate your postings. Lets everyone else see that these thugs are not the wonderful up-standing members of society that their friends/family members will post they are. Thanks.

Economystic .. there is no need for you to post Clerk of court records ... when we can clearly access that information ourselves... Stop being so self-serving ... you didn't find it first .... Geesh! (That's probably why you don't use your real name.... clerk of court records about yourself!) ....

It SHOULD be standard for murder, but some of the bonds seen lately have been a joke - that is why I wondered in this jackwads' case if there was something else to jack it up to almost reasonable for a murderer....uh, 'alleged' murderer

@Ammys2Cuties - that's standard for murder. Also the shooter had a warrant out since May for trafficking cocaine and heroin and possession

One of the two sheriff candidates (subliminal Neil) said there are 400 cells in the courthouse that can be used for housing. He said it is used now to hold inmates who are going to court. How come Symon Lies never used those cells? That would give them 50% more cells.
