A former Fort Thomas teacher charged with having sex with a student will spend 90 days in jail.  Prosecutors said today that Andrea Conners had sex with the boy multiple times, inside and outside of her classroom at Highlands High School.

Conners entered a guilty plea in June to one count of sexual abuse in the first degree. The former  high school business teacher could have been sentenced to has much as five years in prison.

Surrounded by family, a visibly shaken Conners came to court this morning for her sentencing. Her attorney Rob Dziech cited letters of support, including one from former Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher in his plea for no jail time. He also said analysts have said Conners suffers from low-self esteem, social isolation and diminished focus. Dziech says, "It sort of indicated the kind of psycho-social dysfunctionality that was a part of what lead to the decision, obviously the very disastrous decision Ms. Conners made."

Conners made a brief but emotionally charged statement. "I would like to say how sincerely sorry I am to the victim and his family. I never meant to hurt anyone. I am fully to blame for this."

Prosecutor Michelle Snodgrass described Conners as a predator, who had sex with the student at a state park, her parents' home and in the classroom at Highlands high school. She argued for jail time. "What in the world was she thinking?"

Judge Fred Stine told Conners what she did was not only a mistake but a serious crime. He said the sentence should send a clear message to teachers. Both the prosecutor and defense said they respected the judge's ruling. Says Snodgrass, "I think it's important for any parent...not just here in Campbell County but everywhere..that when you drop off your child off at school that they are going to be protected by those people that are supposed to protect them."

Conners began serving her 90 day sentence in the Campbell County jail this afternoon. After that, she'll be on probation for five years and will have to register as a sex offender. for the next 20 years and attend a sex offender treatment program. She'll also have to do community service, where she's been ordered to tell other educators about the seriousness of sex crimes with students.  She also can't live within 1000 feet of a school and cannot have any contact with teens. She must also submit DNA to the state's crime database.

Conners resigned from her job on May 3rd after she was confronted with allegations of improper contact with a male student. The school worked with police and prosecutors to get a sex abuse indictment.

She had been out on $5000 bond since her indictment and under a judge's orders  to stay away from the victim and his family.

Today, she apologized for her actions and said she never meant to hurt anyone.  A letter was also read on her behalf, written by Tom Streicher, the former police chief of Cincinnati.

Conners is the third northern Kentucky teacher indicted for sex with students since the state passed a tougher law in 2008. Dayton teacher Nicole Howell was acquitted two years ago. Dixie Heights teacher Sarah Jones is set to go trial next month.

Former students and colleagues say Conners was a very good teacher. She had a spotless personnel record with Fort Thomas schools. Conners started teaching in 2004.

Ammys3Cuties is right Teachers simply do not have sex with their students it is a CRIME and the TEACHER knows it. Dont care if the boy firted with her if she had no sex, not attention from hubby or suffered from low self esteem issues. HELLO we are jailing 19, 20, 21 year old immature young men for having sex with teenage girls. Hell, I see parents let their daughters date overage boys what do they think is happening when they arent around. I say lock the parents up too shame on them for allowing them to date. We put 14 year olds in highschools with 18 year olds sit back watch them date then when something goes wrong someone is in trouble someones life is ruined. I feel sorry for the teaches kids but seriously if she has this kind of judgement her children should not be allowed around her that poor judgement rocked the richter scale. She is selfish didnt think of anything but what she wanted ....and took it illegally and now her kids are victims her husband the school etc...her neighbors her family and she gets a stinking 90 days in jail............PLEASE

"Andrea Conners had sex with boy in Highlands High classroom, apologized for actions"...and Daddy bought her a house to live in. No bed bug infested hotels that take sex offenders for her and no sex offenders in Daddy's neighborhood or Chief Streichers. Remodleling the house for her too, wow poor poor Neighbors sell your houses quickly because it will be bout 20 years before you can. No contact with teen boys well they are right up the street and what about all the teens in the neighborhood Mamma's watch your boys.

She gets off with nothing compared to what other sex offenders end up with in Campbell County, Daddy will buy and pay for her house, Daddy will pay her fines and child support and she will jog passed the middle school daily live life in her remodeled 250,000.oo home and go on being the self centered person that she obviously is...she will prevent people in her neighborhood from being able to sell there homes. Daddy should have bought her a home next to ex Police Cheif Stricker or better yet let her live with him or bought a home in his neighborhood.

It's so typical to see pedophiles defending statutory rape of an underage student.

I appreciate the judge doing the best thing he felt he could do. I live across the street of a 40 year old female that entertains young males, maybe 15 years old. They shout for sex and off she goes despite being 3 times their age, married, and numerous offspring raised at taxpayer expense. It is not just the sex; there are the crimes: harming, stealing, and destroying property that affect the community. Cops used to taxi her home repeatedly and sit for hours with her in the county cruiser, now they support her regardless of what she does: advising her boyfriends to hide from police after terrorizing people and businesses in Bridgetown as she acts as lookout. Cops still make excuses for her. She does not have a teacher’s license but certainly teaches criminal behavior. Thank you, Circuit Judge, Fred Stine, of Campbell Kentucky, we need you in Ohio.

"...Conners suffers from low-self esteem, social isolation and diminished focus". Female privilege...just like "battered wife syndrome". Never in a million years would you see a guy get off so lightly with such lame excuses. You may as well say she suffered from the Monday morning blues or something.

If she were a he, he'd be in jail for years, not months. Chalk this one up to female privilege.

A jail sentence and public humiliation for this woman is sheer stupidity. The sex wasn't illegal because if his age but because she chose a career teaching young people. Even if he was 18 it would have been illegal. This entire mess is nothing more than finger-wagging prudes who feel anything and everything having to do with sex must be evil. Isn't everyone better off when teen boys vow everlasting love to teen girls just to get into their pants?
