Sounds to me like those trustees have a shared God complex. I guess their poop don't stink. This whole thing sounds hinky (and stinky).

DS008 apparently you didn't understand the weather was above 20 and the neighboring communities were able to clear their roads . Also you missed he wasn't asking the road crew boss to start he was asking him to continue his job and clear the roads . As far as shoveling blacktop I think you probably shoveled a little but mostly you shovel your bs . I bet you haven't been up 24 hours going from fire calls in full gear to an ems run with someone trying to die on you . See your shovel requires no skill but firefighting/EMS/HazMat require physical and mental fitness . As far as the details of the event I have followed it from the beginning and know the facts which you still don't know them but just jumped on here and attacked me . I guess being in a menial job with no personal reward or satisfaction has made you envious . I bet you couldn't make it as a firefighter because you were afraid of fire but never the less tell me again how it was impossible for one road crew chief to protect his residents but his neighboring road crew chiefs were able to do their jobs and protect their citizens ?

I have to say that I'm not surprised that he finally hung himself. I worked for him years ago and had many conflicts of various nature with his use of "authority and power". Sounds like if he had been man enough to apologize for his outbursts....not admitting he was wrong but admitting he handled it wrong....things might have gone differently for him. No big loss to the township in my eyes.

yep, but someone has to step up and be the adult...this should have been done face to face.

Nobody is faulting the Chief for the dedication to his job, his fellow firefighters and the citizens of fairfield township. What he is at fault for his the total lack of professionalism he demonstrated in the conversations he had with at least two township employees and according to other media outlets missing a mandatory meeting. One thing that I found interesting is according to the trustee's he never apologized or took responsibilty for what he said. I think things would have went different at the hearing if he would have just admitted his response in both situations was not professional and offered an apology.

Are these "trustees" (seems like the term could be an oxymoron) elected folks? Vote them out, especially since they can't seem to manage this face to face...to wait until the guy is out of town to bag him is childish, churlish and LACKS leadership, except that of a bunch of whiney thugs...I see no "leadership" in this backstabbing.

my apologies. i re-read that several times and somehow didnt see the "above" in there. For some reason i was thinking about a different storm. The freezing rain that happened that day is not something that you can go out halfway and start throwing salt down if the roads arent pretreated. Ive been through several where the salt is just dissolved but still leaves the ice. Either way, fairfield roads being clean doesnt matter since this is about fairfield township, and this guy sounds like a jerk. All this guy has to do is tell people to go out and salt, so calling him lazy is stupid. He had good reasons for not pointing at someone and grunting the word "go". And speaking of lazy, what sounds like harder work, shoveling 6 tons of blacktop by hand in 6 hours, or mopping floors and messing around on the internet?

you have an amazing memory to remember exact weather and traffic conditions on the day in question. whats even more amazing, that someone with as much knowledge as you have, should know that at 20 degrees and below, road salt is almost completely ineffective at melting through ice unless aided by calcium chloride. Throwing salt down on top of ice or snow at these temps alone does absolutely nothing but destroy cars and cost the city money. The best bet in that scenario is plowing first, then throwing salt down behind you. But i forgot, traffic was heavy at that time making plowing an incredible challenge. Any other knowledge you want to hit me with?

I'm not from Fairfield Township and the voters there will decide this case whether the trustees were right or wrong. However, after reading the story it would seem that the Fire Chief had assumed that his position allowed him to bully other department officials into doing his bidding and the reason why matters little.
