On September 17, 1992, the manager and relief pitcher of the Cincinnati Reds made national news for a fight that started with a comment to reporters.
Manager Lou Piniella and relief pitcher Rob Dibble got into an angry wrestling match in the clubhouse after Dibble suggested Piniella misled reporters about the condition of his pitching shoulder.
Dibble lost his cool when Piniella suggested he wasn't used in that evening's game because of shoulder problems. Dibble said his shoulder was fine. Piniella reportedly called Dibble a liar during the fight, and the two had to be separated by other players.
TV cameras caught the brief scuffle... you can see it by clicking "Watch this video". We also have comments from Dibble and Piniella the day after the argument, following a meeting the two attended with Reds' owner Marge Schott and General Manager Bob Quinn. They reportedly mended their rift during that meeting.
