Bengals beat Titans 33-7, move to 3-0

UPDATED 09/21/14 Minus LB Vontaze Burfict, inactive dealing with the effects of a concussion, the Bengals defense allowed the Titans to drive as far as the Cincinnati 20-yard line on the opening possession. But Ryan Succop missed a 40-yard FG to keep the game scoreless.

Cincinnati countered with a 59-yard drive that ended inside the red zone. Mike Nugent converted on his 29-yard attempt for a 3-0 lead.

On the next Bengals possession, Dalton pitched to Mohamed Sanu, who then threw across the field, back to the QB. Dalton hauled it in and ran 18 yards for his first career TD catch and a 10-0 lead. Sanu is now 2-for-2 this season and 4-for-4 for his career, with 2 TD. Dalton becomes the 5th Bengals QB with a catch but the first ever to get a TD.

Succop missed again in the 2nd quarter, this time from 44-yards. And another special teams miscue on the Titans next possession. Backed up inside their own 10 and punting, a holding penalty was called in the end zone. By rule, that is a safety. So the Bengals jumped out 12-0.

The offense was stymied. But the defense made a big play. A Jake Locker pass to Delanie Walker was deflected via a George Iloka hit. Robert Geathers made the INT and put the Bengals inside the red zone. One play later, Gio Bernard scored from a yard out to make it 19-0.

Dalton threw behind Bernard late in the first half. A deflected ball ended up picked off, Dalton's first INT of the season. However, Reggie Nelson returned the favor in the end zone. That kept things 19-0 at the break.

It remained that way until late 3rd quarter. when Bernard went over the pile from a yard out to put the Bengals up 26-0. That finished off a 14-play, 80-yard drive.

Jeremy Hill tacked on a 4-yard TD run in the 4th, the team's 3rd rushing score of the day.

The defense could not hold on for its first home shutout since 1980. Shonn Greene scored with just over 6 minutes left from a yard out for the final score.
